South Central Sanctuary Supports Hundreds of Kids Daily
TOO MANY CHILDREN IN LOS ANGELES don’t have access to the resources or education that can enable them to realize their dreams. Founded in 1993 to provide safety, love and support for youth ages eight to mid-20s, A Place Called Home now provides holistic wraparound services for more than 800 active members and their families.
At APCH, youth are given access to a comprehensive array of services, including:
- second grade through college level academic tutoring
- college guidance and scholarships
- licensed counseling services
- immersive multidisciplinary arts training
- mentoring
- vocational preparation and career readiness training
- recreation and organized sports
- urban agriculture and nutrition
- empowerment and participation in social and community change for the greater good
2023 marked APCH’s 30th year of service to their South Central community. Since its founding, they have served more than 20,000 youth members and over 150,000 local residents. APCH has helped more than 500 first-generation scholars attend college through their Shaheen Scholarship Program, provided more than 700,000 meals’ worth of food to food-insecure families since the start of 2020 and so much more.
The most rewarding part? APCH alums continually return to share their successes and mentor the next generation of changemakers.
