Community-driven Programs Educate and Inspire Sound Water Conservation
COUNCIL FOR WATERSHED HEALTH has been working to preserve, restore and enhance the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Watersheds since 1996.
Today CWH’s efforts reflect the complexity of water resiliency in a changing climate. CWH programs address:
- urban storm water capture and recharge
- multi-benefit green infrastructure projects
- water quality monitoring
- sustainable landscaping
CWH’s 2025 Vision presents the Los Angeles region as a model of sustainable, urban watershed management that promotes ecological, social and economic health, with reliable, clean, local water supplies, restored native habitats, ample parks and open spaces and integrated flood management.
Through its Watershed Monitoring Programs, CWH staff assesses current baseline conditions and identifies areas to focus more resources. CWH provides water quality data to communities in need so they can make informed decisions on how to best protect their health.
CWH’s Watershed Habitat Restoration projects improve the lives of Angelenos while protecting ecosystem health and wildlife habitat. CWH also collaborates with local communities to control the spread of invasive plants through the Weed Watch program.
CWH’s success lies in focusing on traditionally underserved populations through community-driven design, environmental education and sound water conservation efforts.
