DAVID KEETON OF D C KEETON HOME IMPROVEMENTS is known as “The Contractor You’ll Still Like at the End of the Job”—no small claim, but he’s got hundreds of satisfied customers to prove it.
For the last 30 years, David has overseen “One-Stop Shopping” for kitchens and baths, whole house remodeling, carpentry, floors, cabinets and much more. “We do everything but the pool,” David says.
David oversees the best subcontractors in town. “I’m much better at producing than I am at screwdrivering, so I’ve found experts in all those areas. I’ve worked with some of the same subcontractors for 25 years!”

We choose David Keeton for all our home renovation wishes. His crew is professional and does quality work. David gutted and rebuilt our entire kitchen/dining room more than three years ago and it is beautiful. In fact, I believe the picture of David in the N2N article is actually taken in our kitchen (before the job was completed). Having this new kitchen is a dream and it makes cooking and entertaining a great pleasure for me. That is saying a lot as our home was originally built in the 40’s and the renovation was long overdue!
Last year, we asked David back to renovate more of our home - two full bathrooms, raise ceilings, move doors, enlarge closet space, etc. Even during a pandemic with many supply issues and health issues beyond anyone’s control; David and his crew kept us safe and completed the work to our delight. I just love my “new” home!
As David’s contracting business grows, we continue to choose him as our friend and favorite contractor. David now does swimming pools and will be updating our swimming pool, pool filter system, coping and concrete patio area starting tomorrow. We have great confidence in David and his crew. He is a man of integrity. He stayed with us every step of the way, and was very helpful when we struggled to decide what look we wanted to achieve. He is experienced, collaborative in problem solving, honest, reasonable and very concerned that we are happy with the job before he is finished.

David has worked for me over many years. One project was creating an art studio in a space under my existing house. It turned out great and I still use it as a studio today. He was also a key person I called when a huge eucalyptus tree fell through the house. David was able to get a roof on the house within ten days of the actual event. He’s been very prompt with showing up and getting quotes. David’s workers respect him and there is good communication between them.
David focuses on communication as one of his key ingredients for being a good contractor. I’ve found that to be essential for creating something new and especially something as personal as an addition to your house. He makes sure that he understands what you want. He will tell you what is possible and will see that your dream can be accomplished while at the same time providing a reality check if it’s not suitable for your budget or there’s a functional issue with construction. David finds creative ways to make things happen closest to your initial vision. He has a lot of knowledge and a lot of resources. If you need a certain type of wood for flooring, for example, he’ll say, “Go over here and talk to these people about flooring,” and then find the exact kind of flooring that you want, instead of taking a guess and doing something and then having the client say, “No, that’s not what I want.”
David has taught classes about communicating with your contractor. He has also created little videos online with helpful hints about working with contractors when remodeling your house. He has a real ability to help you, the homeowner, along the way, to make sure that you’re comfortable and that everything is understood. If changes need to be made midway through, he always lays that out carefully. There are little discoveries along the way and he clues you in to that, as well. He goes over the budget piece by piece and you pay as you go. David never advises paying upfront to assure that there are no surprises. I’m always aware of what’s happening in a project and feel that David is there to support me.
David is very accountable as the owner of the company and makes sure that a project is done well. He will not hesitate to re-do something if it is not up to his high standards. His workers are good at what they do, can listen to you and communicate clearly with David. They were very conscientious to keep things clean inside and out through the project.
I have been very happy working with David and have recommended him to my own family.

David has worked on our house for the past three years on a variety of projects, including interior and exterior painting, a deck remodel, new doors and windows and a new fireplace. We’re also having him back for a bathroom remodel. Everything he’s done has been great. His guys come on time, clean up well and are easy to speak with. I’m a production designer and run a lot of construction projects, so I know the terrain and these guys are top notch. It’s been a pleasure working with David. He is readily available via phone/text/e-mail and is always accountable for the work.
One time, when David painted the exterior, we noticed that the house changed color after the first time it rained. Clearly there was an issue with the paint. David had the reps of the paint company come to the house and do a test to figure out the issue and had the whole exterior re-painted at no cost to us.
It’s a rarity to meet a contractor with David’s personality. He’s honest, gives a fair price, gets the work done and does it well, often times ahead of schedule. We used a bunch of different contractors previously, but once we found David we haven’t needed to go anywhere else. He almost feels like family now.

David came recommended to me by my friend who is a real estate broker. My project started out just as a kitchen remodel, then grew into re-wiring the whole house, painting the entire downstairs and various repair jobs, as I kept asking David back for more. He also took care of my rental unit—painting, putting in new flooring and doors, refurbishing the kitchen counters and re-glazing the bathtub and kitchen sink—in essence doing everything necessary to get that unit ready to rent out. I had checked out several other companies at the time I hired David. I thought his pricing was very fair. I liked his transparency, his honesty and that he was very knowledgeable. He had a lot of good ideas and various areas of expertise. I am very happy with my choice.
David's work is impeccable. Everything has turned out the way I wanted it to. My kitchen is absolutely gorgeous and so functional—truly the best use of my space! As a professional chef I finally have the kitchen I’ve always wanted. David was very quick to find little details that weren’t the way they were supposed to be and was on the spot to correct things without just waiting for me to show him. All the subcontractors that he worked with did a really great job as well, from the cabinet maker to the electricians. The place was always left clean and the workers were very conscientious about the space.
I let David set the timeline and he was very informative about how long things would take. He would follow up right away and would make things happen very quickly. Plus, he was easy to get a hold of. David is so personable. It's a pleasure to do business with him and I recommend him without hesitation!

We’ve worked with David for the past 25 years, both for projects at home as well as at the church where I’m a pastor. We totally redid the kitchen and bathroom, as well as all the floors and wallpaper. He’s also done work in the exterior of our home, including the steps in back to make them more accessible. I most appreciate David for his honesty, work ethic and the quality of craftsmanship that he provides. He truly takes ownership of his projects with a strong sense of responsibility for the work and commitment to an excellent job. If something is not done to his liking, he’ll point it out and re-do it even if the homeowner hadn’t noticed. He also takes a long view of things and will make suggestions based on what kind of maintenance the homeowner will need to invest for a given choice.
David is straightforward, both with regards to budget and viable options for your project, as well as with what he is able to take on and what might be outside the area of his expertise. He also doesn’t hesitate to go the extra mile and do his homework. One example was when he redid our steps. He discovered we had backed up sewage oozing out of our back steps. David went to the city himself to research where the original sewer line had been put in to locate the source of the problem, then cut it off at the start of the property and redid the steps. He’s certainly not one to ring his hands and say, “Well, there’s nothing I can do to help.”
David has a great stable of plumbers, electricians and other subcontractors who he works with consistently. It’s a crew of good people and I know them by name now. They come on time, leave the place clean and communicate if there’s going to be a delay. David is easy to get a hold of and very responsive. I completely trust the way he handles his business. I’ve recommended him to other parishioners at the church, which I consider the highest compliment. I let him loose on other people’s problems!
