Bridging The Housing Gap for Veterans and their Families
THE HIGH COST OF HOUSING is one of the big challenges that veterans face upon their return home from service. Homes4Families gives veteran families and “families of the fallen” the opportunity to own a home in three new Enriched Neighborhood Veteran Communities.
To qualify for one of H4F’s single family homes, a veteran must be:
- honorably discharged
- willing to contribute 500 hours of sweat equity
- meet certain income requirements
Homes 4 Families builds the homes and provides complete wrap-around services for the veterans and their families. Homes 4 Families coordinates with other nonprofits, businesses, the California Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA Hospital to ensure that veterans receive benefits, take care of their physical and mental health and learn budgeting skills and basic home maintenance.
H4F’s energy-efficient projects emphasize sustainable practices such as using green building materials, planting drought tolerant gardens, and locating housing close to alternative transportation.
Through H4F projects people gain knowledge, skills and confidence. When neighbors volunteer through H4F, they realize they are a part of something bigger and build more than just a home; they build a community.
