Urban Planners and Architects Unite to Fight Homelessness
ACROSS NORTHEAST LOS ANGELES, neighbors practice collective labor and care by exchanging food, shelter and other resources. Inspired by this work, LA Más partners with resident leaders to promote housing stability and economic solidarity in ways that honor existing cultural and communal ways of living and working together.
To create and preserve housing that is affordable and stable, LA Más partners with tenant organizers to finance and acquire properties that will be community-stewarded. As a way to invest in a strong local economy that centers cooperation and care over capital, LA Más facilitates worker cooperative transitions and seeds funding for resident-led projects. Through an annual leadership training and monthly educational and social gatherings, LA Más grounds its work in meaningful relationships with the people and places of Northeast LA.
With community at the front and center, LA Más is working toward a regenerative Northeast Los Angeles that honors our connections with one another, reconciles our extractive relationship to land and allows everyone a life of dignity.
