Interfaith Organization Feeds Neighbors in Need
IT MAY SOMETIMES FEEL like our communities are fractured, but look around and you’ll find powerful antidotes to these divisions. For nearly four decades, the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry has brought together diverse congregations, as well as laypeople, in a shared action: to feed those who are less fortunate.
Founded by a group of neighborhood women with a desire to stamp out hunger in their community, NHIFP is a 98% volunteer organization with 93% of every dollar donated used towards the purchase of food. They provide over 3000 clients a month with:
- groceries
- pet food
- baby food
- hygiene products
Distributions occur twice a week (Mondays and Fridays from 7:30-11:00 AM), every week of the year. The pantry’s needs are met by both donations from the community and monthly food purchases of over 8,000 lbs., all stored in the basement of Temple Beth Hillel.
The pantry relies upon human energy and compassion to fulfill their work. Volunteers range from retirees and working folk, to students and their families. Since they provide over 300 bags of food per week, packing happens almost daily, so you can get your dose of camaraderie and joyful service at your convenience!
