Organization Builds Community and Affordable Housing
DRIVEN BY THE VISION that everyone needs a decent place to live, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity began in 1990 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. SGV Habitat transforms lives and communities by bringing people together to build and repair affordable homes for families in need. SGV Habitat offers eligible low-income families the opportunity for affordable homeownership, which promotes good health, better educational outcomes, financial freedom, stability and security. Habitat homeowners pay an affordable mortgage (no more than 30 percent
of their income), complete homebuyer education courses and help build homes along- side volunteers.
In addition to building homes, SGV Habitat’s home preservation programs assist low-income homeowners with much needed critical repairs to address safety, accessibility and deferred maintenance issues. SGV Habitat engages the community by encouraging everyone to get involved by donating their time, talents, funds and/or materials. Each year, thousands of volunteers from faith institutions, corporations, schools and civic groups volunteer with Habitat to help solve the housing crisis by building homes, communities and hope for families in the San Gabriel Valley.
Looking to the future, SGV Habitat has launched a new campaign—Framing the Future—an ambitious initiative that will serve 200 families over three years.
