Neighborhood Group Addresses Root Causes of Homelessness
IN THE MIDST OF LOS ANGELES' ONGOING STRUGGLE WITH HOMELESSNESS, the SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition serves as a beacon of hope and resilience. Founded on the belief that unhoused individuals deserve dignity, respect and representation, SELAH makes strides in transforming lives and neighborhoods across Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Atwater Village and Hollywood.
Driven by a team of passionate volunteers, the coalition operates six to eight times a week, offering a range of essential services and programs for those in need. With outreach and supply distribution initiatives, SELAH ensures that unhoused individuals have access to the basic necessities, including meals, showers, hygiene, clothing, and medical services.
The coalition also offers innovative programs such as bike repair, movie screenings, art classes, and phone services, encouraging personal growth and skill development.
To bridge the gap in accessing critical resources, the organization assists with ID and birth certificate acquisition, housing navigation and pro-bono legal aid. SELAH emphasizes the importance of community and connection, offering invaluable support through their housing resources and case management services.
In the face of an overwhelming homelessness problem, SELAH demonstrates that progress and change are possible when we come together to support our neighbors.
