Help Eliminate Food Deserts in LA
EVER WONDER HOW YOU COULD positively impact the health and wellbeing of your fellow community members? In 2016, Olympia Auset transformed that "I wonder..." into action by starting SÜPRMARKT to “shatter longstanding barriers to health in low income communities by making organic food accessible to all.” It’s a lofty goal, but Olympia’s idea caught the attention of locals and spurred neighbors into action. In 2020, the SÜPRSEED foundation purchased a historic location to open a brick and mortar SÜPRMARKT—the area’s first full-service organic grocery.
South Central is an auspicious location to launch this pioneering effort. The area has 1.3 million residents and just 60 grocery stores. In this climate of fast food and liquor stores, “living in South Central makes people more likely to die from preventable illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease,” says Olympia.
Beyond groceries, SÜPRSEED’s programs include: free and subsidized organics, juice cleanse scholarships, cooking and wellness classes, meals for unhoused neighbors, kitchen equipment giveaways, and more.
25 million Americans live in food deserts. SÜPRSEED intends to end this injustice by 2040. Supporting SÜPRSEED is a tangible way we can help our neighbors thrive for generations to come.
