Educating about the Beauty and Value of California Native Plants
WHEN WE MOVED TO LOS ANGELES in the early '90s, we were inspired to tear out our weedy land and plant a beautiful native garden with Catalina Ironwood tress and a colorful meadow. Luckily we had the Theodore Payne Foundation as a resource for education as well as affordable plant, trees and seeds. The staff at the nursery is knwoldgable about every thing from matching plants with microclimates to finding a tree that will grow to a specific height. In addition to using very little water, native plants support the local fauna including hummingbirds and native bees.
When you visit TPF's nursery brimming with native saplings, flowering bushes and fragrant sages, you'll instantly feel a deeper connection to your environs. TPF's 22-acre canyon site includes a retail nursery, demonstration gardens and hiking trail. There is also an art gallery and store that sells fun swag such as books, seeds and garden tools.
The Native Plant Garden Tour is TPF's premier out-reach event, showcasing the region's most spectacular gardens. TPF also offers classes in native garden design and ongoing plant care, as well as a Professional Landscaper Certificate Program.
