Stewards for Santa Monica Mountains Wildlands
LIVING A METROPOLITAN LIFESTYLE IN LOS ANGELES, we can easily forget that, less than an hour’s drive away, the Santa Monica Mountains are teeming with free flowing creeks, native flora and other wildlife.
Treepeople Land Trust is dedicated to preserving this unique mountain range, educating residents about sound stewardship practices and providing opportunities to enjoy this local ecosystem. TLT works with a combination of dedicated school groups and community volunteers to restore sites that have been previously degraded by urban intrusion.
Within the 2,500 acres TLT protects, these hard- working stewards help remove invasive crayfish from mountain creeks and plant native flora, grown by MRT from locally collected seeds and cuttings.
TLT also offers rattlesnake bite prevention workshops for dog owners and educational nature walks led by docents.
Through TLT’s programs students and volunteers implement nature-wise concepts, developing a deep appreciation for local wildlands and learn how to tread lightly within them.
